1. Drink fluids, primarily water, with each meal and between meals. Fluid intake should be greater than 64 ounces per day, and urinary output should be at least 1 gallon a day. The color of the urine should be clear or pale yellow, unless you are taking supplements which affect the color.

  2. Reduce consumption of liquids and foods that contain larger amounts of oxalate.

    Liquids
    Moderate Amounts of Oxalate: apple juice, beer, coffee, cola, instant tea

    High Amounts of Oxalate: cocoa, cranberry juice, grape juice, grapefruit juice, fresh tea

    Foods
    Moderate Amounts of Oxalate: beans, brussel sprouts, tomatoes, potatoes, pineapple, strawberries

    High Amounts of Oxalate: chocolate, asparagus, beets, cactus fruits, plums, raspberries, rhubarb, spinach, almonds, cashew nuts, concord grapes, cranberries, currants

  3. Maintain a low-salt diet.

  4. In most instances, you do not need to modify the intake of calcium.
